For payment on SL’s metro, buses, commuter trains, and boats, there is a fixed price (for all trips within 75 minutes): 50 SEK for adults, discounted for seniors (65+), youth, and students. Tickets can be purchased with a payment card (e.g., Mastercard) or mobile app. Cash is only accepted at stores like 7-Eleven and Pressbyrån. 24-hour pass (180 SEK in 2025) can also be bought online. For tourists, a 1-day or 3-day pass is a good choice. A 24-hour ticket can be purchased in the SL app. [SL travel planner].

Boat Buses (Båtbussarna)
Båtbussarna run between Cityterminalen (by Stockholm Central Station) and Värtaterminalen in Värtahamnen. The trip takes about 20 minutes. Timetables are adapted to Tallink Silja Line ferry departures and arrivals. Price for adults in 2025: 79 SEK one way, 140 SEK round trip. Discount for youth. Tickets can be purchased on the bus (with payment card), on the ferries, and when booking online.

Metro + SL Bus
- Take the Red Line T13 towards Ropsten, get off at Gärdet or Ropsten station. SL buses line 76 and 6 stop at the bus terminal, 1 minute walk from Ropsten T-station.
- From Gärdet: Use the north exit at Brantingsgatan/Furusundsgatan. [Line map + timetable]. About 15 minutes’ walk to Värtaterminalen. Follow signs to Värtahamnen. <map> A ramp leads you above the traffic route. <foto>

The Most Scenic Journey
Bus 76
If sightseeing is important, SL bus 76 “ferry terminal to/from city” is an option. It passes Strandvägen and Kungsträdgården (near the Kungsträdgården metro station). Or from Nybroplan, walk or take the tram to Stockholm Central Station.

Bus 76 continues past the Royal Palace and Slussen (metro) to Södermalm. [Line map, timetable]. Travel time about 20 minutes. (In the morning and afternoon, also bus line 75).
A stop for SL bus 76 in central Stockholm is Berwaldhallen. About a 20-minute walk to the museums at Gärdet. Equally far to Djurgården, unless you prefer the closer stop Djurgårdsbron. <foto> Get off at the Kungsträdgården stop and you’re close to the metro station with the same name. <foto>

An alternative is SL bus line 6, route Ropsten terminal to/from Karolinska hospital. Via Östra station (metro, Roslagsbanan) and Odenplan (metro). [Line map, timetable].
By Water

Departs from Värtaterminalen in Stockholm to Helsinki every afternoon. Spring 2025 timetable: departure from Stockholm at 16:45 local time. Arrives in Helsinki (Olympia Terminal) the next morning. About 17 hours’ journey. The ship arrives at Värtahamnen daily around 9:45 local time. - Silja Symphony:
Stockholm (Värtahamnen) – Helsinki: Daily departure from Stockholm: 16:45 (spring 2025). Arrival in Helsinki: 10:30.
Helsinki – Stockholm (Värtahamnen): Departure from Helsinki: 17:00 daily. Arrival in Stockholm: 10:30. - Baltic Express:
Departs from Stockholm to Turku every day except Wednesday morning, with day departures most days and an evening departure on Tuesdays. Noted for spring 2025. The journey goes via Åland and takes about 11 hours one way. - Baltic Queen to Tallinn (and Victoria I during summer):
Departure: Every other day at 17:30 from Stockholm Värtaterminal.
Arrival: Next day at 10:45 in Tallinn.
Travel time: About 16 hours one way.
