Most scenic experience:
A fixed price applies for travel on SL’s subway, buses, commuter trains, and commuter boats (for all trips within 75 minutes): 50 SEK for adults, discounted for seniors (65+), youths, and students. Pay via mobile app or bank card. Cash is also accepted at staffed subway barriers. Good options for tourists: 1-day or 3-day travel cards. A 24-hour ticket can be purchased in the SL app. Use the SL travel planner.

Boat Buses
The boat buses run between Cityterminalen (at Stockholm Central Station) and Värtaterminalen in Värtahamnen. Travel time is about 20 minutes. Departure times are coordinated with Tallink Silja Line ferry arrivals and departures. Adult price for 2025: 79 SEK single, 140 SEK round trip. Discounts for youths. Tickets can be bought on the bus (card payment), on the ships, or when booking online.

Subway + SL Bus
Take the SL subway Red Line T13 towards Ropsten, get off at Gärdet T or Ropsten T. See route map and timetable. Ticket price 50 SEK (2025). Discounts for seniors and students. Pay by card or mobile app at the barriers, or at a staffed sales point. Day tickets for tourists.
From Gärdet’s north exit at Brantingsgatan/Furusundsgatan. About a 15-minute walk to Värtaterminalen, follow signs for Värtahamnen. Route map .

From Ropsten (Google Streetview) : Transfer to bus 76, which goes directly to the Värtahamnen ferry terminal, at the main entrance. See route map and timetable. Alternatively, you can walk for about 20 minutes. Map. Google Streetview. Metro Ropsten station.
Most Scenic Journey
If sightseeing is important, SL bus 76 “ferry terminal to/from city” is an alternative. It passes Strandvägen and Kungsträdgården (near Kungsträdgården T-station). Or from Nybroplan, walk or take the tram to Stockholm Central Station. Bus 76 continues past the Royal Palace and Slussen (subway) to Södermalm. See route map and timetable. Another option is SL bus line 6, route Ropsten terminal to/from Karolinska Hospital, via Östra station (subway, Roslagsbanan) and Odenplan (subway). See route map and timetable.

By Water: See Stockholm from the water with SL’s commuter boat. At Ropsten, the boat departs from Lidingöbron. Ropsten T-station Artemisgatan is a 3-minute walk from the boat dock. See walking map. Connections Ropsten – Lidingö
- Tram: SL’s tram line 21 runs between Ropsten and Gåshaga brygga (connection to Waxholm boats). See route map and timetable. Tickets.
- Buses: About ten lines depart from Ropsten’s bus terminal near Ropsten T. In the waiting hall at street level, there is a map and display showing bus routes and departures. Main lines: 201 (Hersby gymnasium – Ropsten), 203 (Sticklinge – Ropsten), 204 (Elfvik – Ropsten), 205 (Gåshaga brygga with Waxholm boats – Ropsten), 06 (Brevik – Ropsten), 211 (Bosön – Ropsten), 212 (Björnbo – Ropsten), 225 (Larsberg – Ropsten).

Tallink Silja Line, timetables

- Silja Serenade: Departs Värtaterminalen in Stockholm to Helsinki daily in the afternoon. Spring 2025 timetable: departs Stockholm at 16:45 local time, arrives in Helsinki (Olympia terminal) the next morning. Around 17 hours travel time. Returns to Värtahamnen daily around 9:45 local time.
- Silja Symphony: Stockholm (Värtahamnen) – Helsinki: Daily departure from Stockholm at 16:45 (spring 2025). Arrival in Helsinki at 10:30. Helsinki – Stockholm (Värtahamnen): Departs Helsinki at 17:00 daily, arrives in Stockholm at 10:30.
- Baltic Express: Departs Stockholm to Turku daily except Wednesday mornings, with day departures most days and an evening departure on Tuesdays (spring 2025). The trip goes via Åland and takes about 11 hours one way.
- Baltic Queen to Tallinn (and Victoria I in summer): Departs every other day at 17:30 from Stockholm Värtaterminal. Arrives the next day at 10:45 in Tallinn. Travel time: about 16 hours one way.
